RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OF THE VALLECITOS WATER DISTRICT PRAISING AND
COMMENDING THE SERVICES OF THE VALLECITOS
STAFF IN RESPONSE TO THE 2014 COCOS FIRE EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, on May 14 through May 22, 2014, the Cocos Fire burned over 20,000 acres
in areas of the Cities of San Marcos, Escondido and the County of San Diego. The fire
destroyed three dozen homes, forced thousands of residents to evacuate and prompted
Governor Jerry Brown to declare a state of emergency; and
WHEREAS, in rapid response to the emergency, the Vallecitos Water District staff
activated its Emergency Operations Center to coordinate communications with the Regional
Emergency Operations Center, other local agencies and provided personnel to ensure
adequate supplies of water for firefighting efforts; and
WHEREAS, without the prompt response and selfless efforts of the Vallecitos Water
District staff in insuring the maintenance of sufficient and reliable water for the firefighting
efforts, the Cocos fires could have been substantially more devastating and caused greater
injuries to life and property; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Vallecitos Water District would like to express
their appreciation and commend the Vallecitos staff for their prompt response and dedicated
service to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of the Vallecitos
Water District as follows:
SECTION 1: The Board of Directors of the Vallecitos Water District, on behalf of the
communities in North San Diego County affected by the fire and the residents of the District, do
hereby express their appreciation for the very valuable and professional work performed by
Vallecitos Water District staff.
SECTION 2: The expression of appreciation of the diligent efforts, and selfless service
of Vallecitos Water District staff in protecting the neighboring communities and residents of the
District, is hereby made a part of the permanent records of the Vallecitos Water District.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Directors of the Vallecitos
Water District at a regular meeting held on the 4th day of June, 2014, by the following roll call
vote:
